Royal Wedding Photographer: Alexi Lubomirski
The official photographer for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding has finally been announced. Kensington Palace revealed in a press release that the Royal couple have chosen renowned portrait, celebrity and fashion photographer Alexi Lubomirski to capture their magical day.
Lubomirski was originally commissioned to photograph the couple’s official engagement portraits at Frogmore House at Windsor in November, but the bride and groom to be were so impressed by his work that they asked him to capture their wedding day as well.
He was ecstatic when he heard the news that he was to be their official wedding photographer stating:
“I could not be more thrilled or honoured to photograph this historic occasion. Having taken Prince Harry and Ms Markle’s engagement photos, it brings me such joy to be able to witness again, the next chapter in this wonderful love story.”
Alexi is no stranger to nobility, himself being descended from an influential Polish family who received the hereditary title of Prince of the Holy Roman Empire from Emperor Ferdinand III. His official title is His Serene Highness Prince Alexi Lubomirski. Alexi was born in England to a Peruvian/English mother and a Polish/French father, although he now resides in New York. At age 8 he moved to Botswana with his mother and stepfather, who gave him his first camera at age 11. Their encouragement piqued his initial interest in photography, which grew into a love of the art when he spent his gap year travelling Peru.
He discovered a talent for fashion photography while studying Photography at Brighton University. After graduating he spent the first four years of his career as an assistant to Mario Testino, later moving on to shoot for FACE magazine as well as Harpers Bazaar. Since then, Alexi’s career has been steadily on the rise, shooting for the world’s most prestigious fashion publications with the world’s most glamorous celebrities. His models include Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johannsen, among many others. Alexi got to know Prince Harry and Ms Markle when he took their official engagement photographs. In an interview with E! News at the Daily Front Row Fashion Awards in Los Angeles, Alexi explained that one of Meghan’s friends spotted him on Instagram and encouraged the bride to get in touch. He said the engagement shoot “was one of the easiest most joyful jobs because they were so deliciously in love”.
This will be the first wedding Alexi has ever shot but looking at the quality of his work to date, we have a feeling that he’ll be just fine.
