Celebrate spring in full bloom with a Blossom Photo Walk
About Blossom Photo Walks
CEWE and the National Trust have come together to inspire the nation to discover the power of a Blossom Photo Walk.
Step outside, camera in hand, and capture the beauty of spring blossom. We have some simple tips from photography experts to help you enjoy capturing nature in bloom, no matter how experienced you are behind the lens.

Why do a Photo Walk during the blossom season?
If you have just 10 minutes or a whole day to connect with nature, exploring blossom through photography benefits both your mental and physical wellbeing.
Photo hints and tips from the experts
1. Clean Your Lens
Phone lenses quickly collect fingerprints, dust and residue from being in pockets or bags. Even a small smudge can make photos look dull or blurry. Before taking a picture, gently wipe the lens with a clean cloth or clothing. It only takes a second and can greatly improve sharpness and clarity.
2. Tap to focus
Your phone may not always focus where you want. Tap your subject on the screen to tell the camera exactly where to focus. This keeps the most important part of the image sharp. Many phones also let you adjust brightness by sliding your finger after tapping.
3. Frame carefully
Before taking the photo, check the edges of your screen for distractions like clutter, bright objects, or awkward background details. A small step or shift in angle can improve the composition. Simple, clean backgrounds help your subject stand out and make images look more polished.
4. Get close
Instead of using zoom, move closer to your subject where possible. Digital zoom can reduce image quality, while getting physically closer keeps details sharp. Close photos often feel more engaging and capture expression, texture and personality better than distant shots.
5. Use the rule of thirds
Turn on your camera gridlines to help with composition. The grid divides the screen into nine sections. Try placing your subject along one of the lines or where they meet instead of in the centre. This creates more balanced, interesting images, especially for landscapes and portraits.
