If You Printed All The Instagram Photos Uploaded in a Year
28th February 2026
Every day, people around the world share moments on Instagram - family memories, travel highlights, celebrations and everyday snapshots. Experts estimate that tens of billions of photos are shared on the app every year. This is a huge amount, and can be hard to visualise.
But if you try to picture every photo uploaded to Instagram in a year, printed and placed on top of each other, how high would they reach?
Visualising Instagram Photo Uploads
In well under an hour, the number of photos uploaded to Instagram would already form a stack as tall as the Empire State Building, rising 443 metres above New York City.
Around 12 hours of photo uploads, the growing stack would reach the height of Mount Everest, 8,848 metres above sea level.
After 2 days, the pile of photos would reach the Earth’s stratosphere, where the sky darkens and the Earth’s curve becomes visible. Few have reached such heights, but most notable was Red Bull’s historic skydive from an altitude of 39,045m in 2012, reaching speeds of 844mph and becoming the first human to break the sound barrier without any engine power.
In just under a week, the tower would reach the outer edge of Earth’s atmosphere and begin to climb into space.
The height of uploaded photos after 3 weeks would reach the International Space Station as it orbits around the Earth.
If you printed the multi-billions of photos uploaded to Instagram within a year, the tower would reach thousands of kilometres into the sky - a powerful way to visualise the scale of modern day photography and how woven photos are into our everyday life.
Making moments last beyond the screen
Most Instagram photos are seen briefly before disappearing into the scroll. But the moments behind them, family holidays, first steps, shared laughter, deserve more time and attention.
Printing your favourite photos as a CEWE PHOTOBOOK, Wall Art or high‑quality Prints transforms fleeting digital images into something tangible and lasting. While billions of photos are shared online every year, the ones that truly matter are the ones you choose to keep.
